An invitation for Community & Fellowship

Sardis Baptist Church has a long history of serving the rural community in Chattahoochee Hills. Established in 1875 as the "Baptist Church of Christ at Sardis," early records show 65 members on the role with services held one weekend each month on Saturday and Sunday.
As the surrounding community grew over time, so did the church.  In 2008, a pavilion was added to the property and the church extended an invitation for the community to use it for fellowship activities.
When selecting a barn quilt for the pavilion, Sardis Church members chose a Cross & Tulips pattern in their favorite colors of purple and green.

The Community Pavilion invites fellowship activities.
On an early spring evening, a visitor pauses for a rest at the Sardis Community Pavilion.  Old growth trees along the property line whisper softly in the gentle breeze, the nearby cemetery grounds inspire quiet meditation. The church might be pleased to know that even when its doors are closed for the evening, it offers a place of solace to those who pass by.
Some say that rural churches are the true elders of the community, as they are among the oldest institutions with the longest social memory. If the walls of Sardis Church could speak, they would tell the story of the early pioneering families who founded the church as a nearby place to worship in their community. Of how these families worked together to build the community and welcomed newcomers to worship and fellowship with them. And how they have continued to embrace the Christian values of faith, hope, and love throughout the generations.

Heritage story . . . 148 Years and Counting

From the Sardis Baptist Church website:
Established in 1875, the Baptist Church of Christ at Sardis has seen so many changes! The original building was located on the southeast corner of Hutcheson Ferry and Sardis Roads.  A bigger and new church building was started in 1926.  At the hands of Mr. Henry Peek and many volunteers, it was finished in 2 years. This is the very same building we worship in today. Records indicate the name of the church was condensed to Sardis Baptist Church in 1942.
