Sarah's Choice - A family's treasure

Sisters Irene Saul and Mary Lynn Oxford (née Lee), were born and raised in the historic home now called the John F. Beavers House (built circa 1828). They have many fond memories growing up on their family's farm: chasing chickens around the yard, listening to singing from the Baptist Church on Sundays, snuggling under the quilts their mother Sarah made with love and remnants of their daddy's shirts, their worn out dresses, and leftover seed & feed sacks.
In honor of their mother -- and their time living in the Beavers House -- a barn quilt was replicated from their mother's quilt and named Sarah's Choice. It is displayed on the garage so as not to harm the historic home.

Quilts that hold the fabric of our lives

Irene and Mary Lynn have inherited many of the quilts their mother made while their family lived in the John F. Beavers House. They have also inherited her talent for quilting and for using whatever scrap cloth was on hand to make the quilt. In the photo at the far left, they point to fabrics they recognize as dresses they worn long ago. The photo in the middle is their mother's quilt that inspired this barn quilt. Pictured at the farm right is the barn quilt. It's pattern is similar to one called "Blazing Arrows" but it could also be an eight-point star, depending upon the fabric chosen.
On November 7, a Barn Quilt Painting class was hosted in Chatt Hills. Participants in that class helped to paint the "Sarah's Choice" barn quilt.
